The purpose of this premier organization, which is comprised of prominent business and civic leaders, is to showcase the best in Mobile, Alabama. MAMGA’s Royal Monarch is King Elexis I – a name derived from our first King, Alexander Herman. His Gracious Majesty is accompanied by a Queen, their Royal Court and Military Escorts.

According to Dr. W. L. Russell, to be selected to reign as King Elexis I or his Queen during Carnival season was and still is "an honor no money can buy.He said: "We select only finest young people from the best families in the community." Although MAMGA began in 1938 it did not present a Carnival King and Queen or parade that year.

In the year 2008, the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association presented its first youth court, "The Junior Monarchs." This group showcased youth ages 14-19. MAMGAs Royal Monarch is Prince Elexis I. His Gracious Majesty is accompanied by a Princess, their Royal Court and Military Escorts.
